The course of an audit - explained step by step

What you should know about audits
In this contribution, Anja Dräger informs you about audit. She looks at the rules of conducting audits, the reasons and what negotiating options you have.

Notice of audit
The software manufacturer sends you a letter of notice and demands that you, within a 45 days period appoint a day for the beginning of the audit and agree to the course of the audit.

We will answer all legal questions and explain all legal requirements. We will set a team of experts, who will negotiate on your behalf during the whole course of the audit.

Course of audit
We will support you in all stages of the audit process and make sure that the auditing firm takes into account your rights and all legal procedures of the manufacturer. Throughout the process, you will have the reins in your hand, while our SAM-team makes sure that the audit proceeds in the right way.

  Final report of audit
At the end of the audit, you will receive a final report. It contains most importantly the licensing balance, meaning a balance of the available licenses with the deployed or installed software. Your result is an overview of the following:
  • Your hardware and the installed software
  • Your available licenses
  • The use of CALs and CPU licenses
At your wish, the SAM-team can negotiate the result directly with the manufacturer. In the case of an existing under-licensing, we can negotiate a cost optimal solution for your company.

Is there a grace for license sinners?
Alone the thought of a possible audit from a software manufacturer often brings many company CEOs and IT managers cold sweat on the forehead. This is because very few companies operate a functioning license management system. No other asset gets poor management as software asset. This is the opinion of Giorgio Santella, one of the co-founders of SAM consulting. The reason being that the awareness is yet to reach the top level of many company managements. Back
